Garden maintenance - Smart

from Primeo Energie

Water on demand!

Switzerland is often referred to as the "water tower of Europe". However, during dry years, such as 2018, or in the height of summer, the amount of rainfall is not sufficient to allow everything in the garden to flourish perfectly. In such cases, additional watering of plants is necessary - and it is best done in an appropriate manner. This is important to avoid unnecessary wastage of water and to supply the respective garden areas with exactly the moisture they need. For instance, perennials, fruit and vegetable plants need to be watered daily, while a lawn requires watering only twice a week, but more intensively. A smart soil moisture sensor, which can be directly linked to an irrigation control system, is the best way to check if the soil in the garden is dry enough to require watering.

To water or to delegate watering - that is the question

Whether it's lettuce or English lawn - almost all plants have one thing in common: they prefer to take up water early in the morning (ideally an hour before sunrise) or late in the evening. Spraying them with cold water in the midday heat is detrimental to them; in fact, the lawn can even turn brown. If you prefer to turn over in bed once more in the morning or are already on your way to work, or if you prefer to take a round with the dog in the evening, you should delegate the watering of the garden. Smart irrigation controllers can be programmed not only for the exact amount of water, but also for a specific time - and this can be different for various zones in the garden. This way, everything runs automatically without any further intervention - even during the holiday season.

All the advantages of smart irrigation at a glance

  • Optimal garden care
  • More time and flexibility
  • Less water consumption

When the lawn grows and grows

When the weather is good, the temperature is warm and the lawn is moist enough, grass grows between two and five millimeters a day. To prevent the lower part of the blade from drying out, it should be mowed weekly. If this is not done, the damage will be visible after the next cut, when the upper green part of the blade is missing and only the brown rest remains. If you don't want to mow every week in the summer, you should opt for a smart lawn robot. Depending on the model, these can even handle areas up to 500 sqm with a gradient or incline of up to 35 percent without any problems.

Perfectly combined: smart system for garden care

If you want to optimally connect all elements for intelligent garden care, you can easily link them via the smart gateway. Soil moisture sensor, irrigation control or system, and lawn robot are then coupled and can be controlled via an app, Siri or directly on the device. This leaves garden owners with only one thing to do in the summer: sit back and enjoy the view into the green.
