Registration of your Plug & Play solar system

from EKZ

Balcony power plants, also known as plug and play solar power systems, are an easy way to generate environmentally friendly solar power directly from your balcony. To ensure that your system can be operated safely and in compliance with regulations, it is necessary to register it with the local grid operator before commissioning. Below you can find out how to register your Plug and Play system with EKZ.

Registration with EKZ

If your Plug and Play solar system is to be operated in the grid area of Elektrizitätswerke des Kantons Zürich (EKZ), follow these steps:

1. Download the declaration of conformity for the system offered in the shop.

2. Log in to your myEKZ customer portal. If you do not yet have a myEKZ account, you can register quickly and easily here .

3. Register your Plug and Play system in myEKZ. You can find the registration under the menu item ‘Solar’. To do this, upload the declaration of conformity in your myEKZ customer portal. Below you will find the link to register with myEKZ .

Reimbursement for Plug and Play solar systems

Owners of Plug and Play solar systems are entitled to remuneration for the surplus electricity that they feed into the grid and do not consume themselves. When you register your Plug and Play solar system in myEKZ, you automatically register to receive a refund

Households with smart meters

Electricity from households with a communicative smart meter is fed into the grid in accordance with the current redistribution tariff (basic remuneration) , which also applies to larger redistribution systems. The remuneration is usually paid quarterly and is deducted from the electricity bill as a credit note.

Households without smart meters

For households without a communicative smart meter, EKZ will grant an annual flat rate of CHF 58 in 2024. In 2025, the flat rate will be CHF 45.

For Plug and Play solar systems that are registered during the year, the lump sum will be paid after successful registration with EKZ. The payment will be credited to you in the form of a credit note on your next electricity bill.

For plug-in solar systems that have already been registered, the lump sum is paid out in the first quarter in the form of a credit note. You will find the credit note on the first electricity bill of the year.
