Save electricity
Measuring, Optimizing, and Controlling Electricity Consumption
Simple tips and tricks
At Primeo Energie online shop, we are committed to helping you reduce your energy consumption and save money. Here, we offer some simple tips and tricks to help you achieve this, often requiring only minimal investments. Whether it's cooking, surfing the internet, or freezing food, you can likely save energy in almost all everyday activities through behavior changes, technical adjustments, or the renewal of outdated electrical appliances.
Identifying Energy Guzzlers
In many households, electrical appliances are used for many years until they finally give up the ghost. The energy efficiency class of the device is often no longer known, and the instruction manual with the information is also not found. To identify the energy guzzlers in the household, you can use energy meters. These are simply plugged between the socket and the device plug and then measure the energy consumption. The energy meters from Brennenstuhl have proven to be reliable in this regard. These measure the energy consumption and store the past data, allowing an analysis over time.
Even smarter is the myStrom WiFi Switch. This device can measure energy consumption and costs. These data can be sent directly to your smartphone or tablet via an app and conveniently evaluated. But that's not all: You can easily switch the attached device on and off with the myStrom WiFi Switch as an intermediate plug: via timer, schedule, or standby. This makes your socket or the attached device smart. You receive all the information on your smartphone or tablet, so you can also control it when you are not at home or have mounted the plug in your holiday home. Click here for the product.
Electricity-saving tips:
Saving Electricity When Surfing the Internet:
You can also save money and protect the environment while surfing the internet. For example, if you use a laptop instead of a PC, you save energy and can save approximately 130 kilograms of CO2 per year. Tablets and smartphones consume even less energy. Thanks to a mobile-optimized display of most websites, surfing with these devices is now problem-free and without restrictions.
Saving Energy by Maintaining Devices:
Sure, new electrical devices with a high efficiency class are cheaper to operate than old devices. This is especially true for refrigeration and freezing devices, which are used continuously. But if you can't afford a new device, you can still save by defrosting the devices regularly: An icing of 5 mm thickness increases the energy requirement of a device by about 30 %. With the thick ice layers that form in some devices, this can have a significant impact. If you defrost your refrigeration and freezing devices once or twice a year, this will be noticeably noticeable. To prevent icing, you should only store food sealed. If they are open, they give off moisture and cause the ice layer to grow faster.
Saving Energy with the Right Lighting:
Incandescent lamps or halogen lights are now banned in Switzerland. But there are still some left in some households, as LED lamps initially had a bad image: Their light was cold white and therefore appeared uninviting to many. But now, modern lamps are also available in the popular warm white. Especially smart lamps can also shine in various colorful colors and be dimmed. They thus adapt to the individual lighting needs of the users and at the same time save money and protect the environment. The energy consumption of a modern lamp is 80 % less compared to an incandescent bulb. You can find a selection of different LED lamps in our shop in the LED Lamps category.

Smart Possibilities
The simplest way to effectively save energy in the household is not to supply devices with electricity in the first place. Many devices do not need to be connected to the power grid around the clock, as they are only used for a short moment during the day: Coffee machines, toasters, fans, and many other helpers are affected. They consume unnecessary energy in standby mode. For them, the use of power strips with switches or classic timers or smart power switches is worthwhile. You can find a selection of different products in our Electronics & Energy Saving Products category.
These are simply plugged between the end device and the socket. Then, precise timing schedules can be created using the associated apps. An example is the coffee machine. On a normal working day, a specific time window of, for example, one hour can be defined in which the coffee runs and is kept warm. After that, the device is automatically switched off. A suitable intermediate plug is the myStrom WiFi Switch. The plug was specially developed for Swiss sockets, so no additional adapter is needed. Such scenarios can now be created for almost all everyday scenes. The combination with other triggers is also possible: The fan turns on when the room temperature exceeds 26 degrees, or the light is only switched on after sunset. Smart Home activities can be activated by movements, location data, times, weather, and much more. Of course, if you want to optimize your entire household with this, you have to invest some time. All scenarios must be thought through and the devices networked accordingly. But after that, your wallet and the environment will be happy.
